First New Year's babies in Waterloo, CR, IC & Dubuque

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The first babies of 2009 are arriving across eastern Iowa.  We checked with local hospitals to find out who are the area's first arrivals of the new year.

12:10am: Chas and Shishonee Hughes of North Liberty are the proud parents of the first baby born at Mercy Iowa City in 2009.  The baby, which is yet to be named, weighed 9 pounds and 11 ounces and was 23 inches long.  We're told everyone is doing very well.

12:44am: A Bosnian couple are the proud parents of the first New Year's baby at Covenant hospital in Waterloo.  Anita Kajtezovic gave birth to a boy name is Edvin. He weighed a little over 9 pounds and was 21 3/4 inches long.

12:45am:  Marcus and Beth Hilliard are the proud parents of the first baby born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  Beth gave birth to a boy named Max Wayne.  He weight 8 pounds four ounces and was 21 inches long.  The family is from Brandon, Iowa.

2:30am:  April Thompson is the proud mom of the first baby born at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  She gave birth to a little girl who weighed 6 pounds 14 1/2 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long.  No word yet on the baby's name.  April Thompson is from Grinnell, Iowa.

3:08am: Amanda and Doug Funke are the proud parents of the first baby born at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.  The baby's name is Grace Francis, she weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.
