ISU Coaches and AD give up a week's pay to help with school's budget

AMES (KWWL) -- Some of Iowa State University's highest-paid athletics department staff say they won't collect a paycheck this week to help save the school tens of thousands of dollars.

Four top-paid workers are taking a one-week furlough, saving the school more than $50,000 and helping to offset state budget cuts.

Those who volunteered to work a week without pay include Athletics Director Jamie Pollard, basketball coaches Greg McDermott and Bill Fennelly and newly appointed head football coach Paul Rhoads.

An ISU news release says the officials want to help the university save money after Governor Chet Culver ordered midyear budget reductions. The move comes as the state is withdrawing $7 million in appropriations.
