CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Kerwin Dunham and Johnny Moran each had 11 points to lead Northern Iowa to a 59-51 victory over Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
Northern Iowa (7-6, 1-1) led 33-24 going into halftime. Southern Illinois (5-8, 0-2) brought momentum into the second period, outscoring Northern Iowa 27-26, but it wasn't enough to give the Salukis the win. Adam Koch had 10 points for Northern Iowa and Jordan eglseder added ten rebounds. Kevin Dillard led Southern Illinois with 16 points and a game-high five assists. Carlton Fay had 12 points for the Salukis. Northern Iowa earned 21 points from its bench and was able to turn Southern Illinois' 12 turnovers into ten points. Southern Illinois shot 34.5 percent from the field for the game compared with 48.7 percent for Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa led by as many as 11 points in a game that saw the lead flip-flop seven times.
