Dubuque teen charged in fatal joy ride crash

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- A Dubuque teenager faces four decades in prison for a dangerous joy ride that killed another man.

This week, prosecutors charged Milton Matson, 19, with two counts of homicide by vehicle and a charge of serious injury by vehicle.

Police say on November 13th Matson drove a car with three others down a hilly road with sharp declines near Key West.   A criminal complaint says Matson intentionally sped up to 90 miles per hour to get airborne after passing the top of the hill.

The car landed on the pavement and Matson lost control of the car, rolling it several times and ejecting Timothy Hanten,23, and Toireasa Yunk, 21. Hanten died at the scene.  Yunk suffered serious injuries.

Authorities say Matson's blood-alcohol content was well above the legal limit.  If convicted, Matson faces 40 years in prison.  Right now, no trial date is set.
