Mason City house fire injures one

MASON CITY (AP) -- At last one person has been hurt in a fire in an apartment house in Mason City.

Firefighters responded to the blaze Tuesday morning.

Officials say the injured man, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Another resident of the building, James Foell, who lives on the second-floor with his 5-year-old son, says they were awakened by the injured man yelling and banging on their day.

Foell says he and his son escaped uninjured.

Officials say a woman who lives in the building and has diabetes was taken to an ambulance but it wasn't immediately known if she was hurt in the fire or whether she was hospitalized.
