Company fined for not calling before digging

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A central iowa company is fined $5,000 after failing to call the Iowa "One Call" hotline before excavating.

The fine on Rogers Automated Entrances, Inc. comes by order of Polk County District Court Judge Robert Blink after a June 5 excavation.

That excavation turned out to be near five different hazardous liquid pipelines and three fiber optics cables.  None of those lines were hit.

The one call law requires at least 48 hours advance notification before excavations so underground lines can be marked.
