Travelers hunker down at airports

CHICAGO (KWWL) - Holiday travel has been a difficult ordeal in many parts of the country this week, and that's especially been the case in the nation's midsection.

Some stranded passengers woke up Christmas morning in terminals at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, the nation's second busiest.

After 500 passengers spent Tuesday night at O'Hare, airlines requested about 75 cots for passengers still stranded by snow and ice on Christmas Eve.

About 100 flights were canceled Wednesday at O'Hare.

An American Airlines jet that was taxiing skidded into the grass after hitting a patch of ice. No one was injured, but a runway had to be closed.

Airports around New York City also saw delays of up to more than four hours.
