WAVERLY--It'll be a warm Christmas for 115 students from Waverly-Shellrock High School. When Iowa was selected for the Outback Bowl, it completed a dream scenario for this musically inclined group of students.
Six months earlier the Go-Hawk marching band found out they would be performing at halftime of the New Year's Day bowl.
It's a process that started four years ago and ended when Disney approved the band's audition tape to perform in their New Year's Eve parade. That made them a shoo-in for the football game.
On the trip, they will be treated to a day of fun in the sun by Ed Droste, a Waverly-Shellrock alum who is one of the six pioneers of the Hooters' restaurant franchise.
The band is leaving tomorrow for their Christmas vacation.
