Charity to shut down amid controversy

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A charity formed to help victims of Iowa's tornadoes and floods may fold as a controversy leaves it without a home.

"Our Shepherd's Closet" has moved several times since it opened about seven months ago. Now, it's leaving its current home at the Daisy Dairy building in Cedar Falls as the city buys the building from the University of Northern Iowa.

That's where the controversy starts. The charity's founder, Becky King, told the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier the city is forcing the group to leave. But city officials told the Courier they are not throwing out the group, only requiring they pay utilities as part of the lease, which could run close to $1,000.
