Iowa NFL star helps local nursing home for the holidays

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- As Iowa native Kurt Warner leads the Arizona Cardinals to the playoffs, he's also helping an eastern Iowa nursing home for the holidays.

Kurt Warner and his wife Brenda, through their Foundation, First Things First, have adopted the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home as a part of their Christmas Adoption Program this season.  Brenda used to work at the nursing home.  The Adoption Program focuses on bringing joy to those individuals who may have friends and family nearby to honor them at Christmas.

27 people will receive a stocking filled with gifts of joy this Christmas (including a Kurt Warner trading card).  To ensure that all 300 people who live in the home are touched, the Warner Foundation has granted the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home an additional $1500 worth of support to enhance daily living.  Items purchased will be used through the Recreation, Music, Wellness, Art, & Horticulture Therapy Programs offered at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home to enhance resident physical, mental, social, and spiritual well being.

"The gifts have meant so much to our residents!  In fact when one resident found out that her gift was from Kurt Warner, she did a (seated) dance saying, "Yes, Yes, Yes!"  She is a big fan", said  Millisa Tierney, Executive Director of the Lutheran Home

In addition to the gifts from First Things First, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home has also been adopted by The Principal Financial Group, Cedar Falls office, this season.  Also, Kindergartners from the home's Partner in Education School -Black Hawk Elementary - made Christmas Cards for residents.

"It is wonderful that we have so many "angels" to help us spread joy to our residents at Christmas Time and throughout the year," said Tierney, Executive Director of the Lutheran Home, "Thank You!"
