Red-hot shooting sends Panthers to easy win

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - As one door closes, another one opens. Jon Montgomery turned in his Panther basketball uniform this week, telling Ben Jacobson he wanted to transfer. But on Sunday, Adam Rodenberg put on the purple and gold for the first time after transferring in from UC Irvine.

At home against South Dakota State, Rodenberg came off the bench to score 3 points and add 5 rebounds in his UNI debut.

But the story was the Panthers' red hot shooting.  UNI shot a season-high 57 percent from the floor and cruised past the Jackrabbits, 72-55.

Brian Haak and Kerwin Dunham each came off the bench to hit three-pointers as part of an early 17-1 run that helped UNI build a 23-5 lead.  The Panthers hit 63 percent of their field goals in the 1st half and led 40-19 at intermission.

Kwadzo Ahelegbe led all scorers with 16 points.  Ali Farokhmanesh added 14.  Jordan Eglseder had 11 to go with a game-high 7 rebounds.

UNI improves to 6-5 on the season.  The Panthers open conference play next Sunday at home against Indiana State.
