ISU names new head football coach: Paul Rhoads

AMES (KWWL) -- Last weekend, Auburn lured Gene Chizik away from Iowa State to become the Tigers head coach.  Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard says Chizik told him twice he would not take the Auburn job

Saturday, Pollard turns arounds and hires Chizik's incumbent defensive coordinator at Auburn, Paul Rhoads to be the Cyclones new head coach, making Rhoads a head coach for the first time.

Rhoads was officially introduced at a press conference Saturday evening.  Rhoads spent last year as Auburn's defensive coordinator after serving Pittsburgh in that role from 2000-2007.  The Ankeny native was a Cyclone assistant under Dan McCarney from 1995-1999.

Rhoads contract is reportedly for 5 years and a total of $5.75 million.
