Many buyers interested in Agriprocessors

WATERLOO (AP) -- The court-appointed trustee overseeing Agriprocessors' bankruptcy case says at least a dozen parties are looking at buying whole or a part of the meatpacking company.

Trustee Joe Sarachek says in a report filed this week that although no formal marketing efforts have been undertaken, he has been approached by at least 12 parties that have expressed an interest in the meatpacking company.

Agriprocessors' plant in Postville was the site of a May immigration raid in which 389 people were arrested. It was one of the largest worksite immigration raids in U.S. history.

Sarachek says the company shut down production at one point, but has since rehired about 200 people and another 11 at its headquarters in New York.

Another hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
