BLIZZARD WARNING in effect until 6:00 pm Sunday

IOWA (KWWL) -- A BLIZZARD WARNING is in effect between Highways 20 and 30 until 6 PM on Sunday.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for Northeast Iowa until 6 PM on Sunday.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY is in effect along and south of Highway 20 east of Waterloo through 9 AM Monday.

A strong low pressure system will move through the upper Midwest through Sunday night. This is bringing 1 to 3 inches of new snow and some very strong winds. These winds will be from the northwest at 20 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph at times. This is picking up the new snow and the snow from Thursday night and moving it around rapidly.

Visibilities will be less than a quarter of a mile at times, especially in the Blizzard Warning area. All over Eastern Iowa, wind chills will be dangerously low. They will range from 20 to 35 below zero through early Monday morning. The winds will die down Sunday night, but the air temperatures will plummet into negative double digit range.

Another system will move in on Tuesday pretty much ensuring that we have a White Christmas with another chance of snow. Friday has a chance of snow as well, but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look like clear sailing for Santa and his reindeer!
