Historic bridge destroyed in floods to be rebuilt

FAYETTE (KWWL) -- After being denied by FEMA, Fayette County will get money to rebuild an historic bridge washed away during the floods of 2008.

Congressman Bruce Braley says the U.S. D.O.T. will spend $2 million to rebuild the Huntzinger bridge, spanning the Turkey River between West Union and Ossian. FEMA denied disaster relief funding for the project because the bridge was already slated to be replaced before the flood. Now with DOT funding, a new bridge should be in place by the end of next year. About 400 vehicles used the bridge everyday.
