Thornburg parents unhappy after girl left on bus

THORNBURG (AP) -- Some parents are upset about an incident this week in which a 5-year-old girl was left alone on a school bus in Thornburg after she fell asleep.

Parents say they were disappointed that Tri-County Community School Superintendent Bill Cox won't reprimand the driver for failing to check his bus Monday morning. He didn't realize the kindergarten student was on the bus.

She woke up in the cold bus, then walked to her school where the doors were locked. Heather Little says her daughter, Mariah, knocked on the door and screamed, then stood at the door before someone finally spotted her.

Little says the driver should be fired.

Cox says the Keokuk County district regrets what happens but won't discipline the driver or change any policies.
