Train derails in SE Minnesota, sends cars into Mississippi

DRESBACH, Minn. (AP) -- Emergency crews are at the scene of a train derailment that may involve as many as 40 cars south of Winona.

Officials say two trains may have collided. Some of the cars went into the Mississippi River.

Winona County Emergency Management spokesman Dave Belz says liquid ammonia is leaking from some of the cars but it is not a danger to the public and no evaluations are planned.

Belz says the derailment happened near Lock and Dam No. 7. People are asked not to drive in that area.

No injuries are reported.

The derailment happened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
