Vilsack picked as Ag Secretary

CHICAGO (KWWL) -- Tom Vilsack has been picked to serve in Barack Obama's cabinet.  Obama announced in Chicago Wednesday morning, he wants Vilsack as his Secretary of Agriculture.

Vilsack is the 4th former democratic opponent of Obama's 2008 run for president.  The other already joining his administration include Vice Presidential-elect Joe Biden, Secretary of State Pick Hillary Clinton, and Bill Richardson, who was picked as Commerce Secretary.

Vilsack says he can bring alot to the post.

Obama said, "Tom Vilsack has been a leader among governors when it comes to clean energy, when it comes to agriculture. Obviously if you dont' know agriculture you're not going to be governor of Iowa."

"I know these people. America's farmers and ranchers deserve a Secretary of Agriculture that respects them for the contribution they made to all of us every day. I hope to be that secretary," said Vilsack.

The last Iowans to serve in a presidential cabinet were Henry Wallce and Harry Hopkins, both under Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
