UPDATE: 1 hurt in I-80 pile-up

JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) - A 9 vehicle pile-up on Interstate 80 inolving 4 semis sent one person to the hospital.

The crash Tuesday afternoon shut down a 5-mile stretch of Interstate 80 for hours as crews cleaned up the scene near the West Branch exit.

According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, a Dodge Avenger lost control and hit a semi.  That set off a chain reaction crash involving 9 vehicles.  The driver of the Avenger, 63 year-old James Cato of Illinois, was taken to the hospital.  His condition has not been released.

The Iowa State Patrol says a combination of snow and poor visibility contributed to the crash.  Charges are pending.
