Independence school vote

Independence (KWWL) - If Tuesday's vote goes as many education officials hope, there could be a new school in Buchanan County.

Voters will decide on a $11.5 million bond for a new Independence High School. The project will cost about $19.5 million dollars, with the difference coming from a statewide sales tax.

This is the fifth vote on the proposal. The current high school was converted from a junior high after the original building burned 50 years ago.

If approved, taxes on a $100,000 home would increase by about a $105 a year.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
