Experts say Iowa flooding could increase

CEDAR RAPIDS  (KWWL) - Some expects say serious floods in Iowa could increase in frequency.

Iowa State University professor of atmospheric science and agricultural meteorology Eugene Takle said that if he had to guess, the possibility of serious flooding is increasing.

His colleague at Iowa State, Elwynn Taylor, said he believes increases in Iowa's annual precipitation, coupled with anticipated precipitation increases linked to global warming, greatly increase the likelihood of more frequent and severe flooding.

Since 1950, Iowa's annual precipitation has increased 10 percent, according to Taylor.

He says that has doubled the amount of water carried by rivers in the state.
