Season comes to an end for UNI

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- With a loss to Richmond Saturday, the UNI Panthers will not be going on to play in the 2008 FCS National Championship game this Friday.  The Panthers faced off against the Richmond Spiders Saturday afternoon in the UNI-Dome.  UNI lost 21-20, after Richmond scored a touchdown with mere seconds remaining on the clock.  The Panthers tried a last attempt to scramble for a win, but were unsuccessful.

The Panthers end their season with an overall record of 12-3.  Before Saturday's game, UNI had won ten games in a row.

Starting with a win over UNI in 2005, Appalachian State has won the National Championship for the last three years.  Last week, Appalachian State lost their hopes of another Championship with a loss to Richmond.  Richmond will now get their chance to claim that national title with a game against Montana this Friday in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
