Grand opening for new Diamond Jo Casino

DUBUQUE (KWWL) --  The city of Dubuque is rolling the dice on a new casino.

The new Diamond Jo Casino opened Thursday, just five days after the old riverboat closed. This new casino is on land, ending a nearly 15 year run on the river.

The new Diamond Jo Casino will cut the ribbon and open to the public at 9:00 p.m.  The new $84.1 million casino replaces the old riverboat casino bearing the same name.

That boat is being sold, and the portside building is being donated to the National Mississippi River Museum, where it will be used for exhibit space.

"It's hectic, but also exciting. I just can't wait to see all the people coming through and see how they enjoy it," said longtime employee of Diamond Jo Milissa Davis.
