4 hunters injured in separate incidents in Iowa

DES MOINES (AP) -- Four hunters are recovering after being injured in separate accidents during the opening weekend of the shotgun season in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources believes slugs that ricocheted were the cause of three of the four accidents.

On Saturday, Dale Rowson, of Clinton, was injured when a shotgun slug ricocheted off his right pants leg and struck his left calf.

Also on Saturday, David Cheers, of Afton, was hit by a shotgun slug in the lower abdomen, but it didn't penetrate his body.

On Sunday, Bradley Lynch, of Grundy Center, was struck in the chest by a slug that investigators think passed through a deer before striking him.

Also on Sunday, Daniel Rickelman, of Fort Madison, was shot in the thigh while hunting near Fairfield.
