Holiday train ride helps Rebuild Palo

PALO (KWWL) -- After the floods of 2008, the city of Palo is receiving some extra help rebuilding thanks to a holiday train ride.

Hundreds of people stepped on board for a ride on the Hawkeye Express Saturday.

Proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to the Rebuild Palo fund.

The train made its way between Palo and Vinton where people could do some holiday shopping and visit old Saint Nick.

"Its something about the spirit of the season," said event organizer Renee Nelson.  "People are excited to get on a train and go see Santa.  It's a little cold out but its a really good time."

Organizers are expecting to donate more than $30,000s from this ride to the Rebuild Palo fund.
