Lego competition comes to eastern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- About 200 kids came together to compete with legos Saturday.

It's part of the first lego league regional qualifier tournament.

This competition at holmes junior high in Cedar falls is one of six tournaments around the state this weekend.

For the last eight weeks, teams built robots and did research for this year's theme issue -- climate.

The robots raced against each other to see who could compete the most missions the fastest.

The program is aimed to help build children's interest in science and technology.

Half the teams will go on to the state championship in Ames, and from there one will go to the national championship in Atlanta.
