KWWL-TV Back On The Air

WATERLOO (KWWL) --KWWL-TV is back on the air after a two and a half hour broadcast disruption, caused by a water-related power outage.  Waterloo City employees were repairing a broken fire hydrant, and water unexpectedly began flowing down 4th Street in downtown Waterloo just before 11 a.m.

The runaway water flooded an underground electrical transformer in front of the KWWL-TV studios and knocked the Quincy Newspapers-owned television station off the air from just before 1 PM until almost 3:30 Friday afternoon.

City water employees say the fire hydrant, at the corner of East 4th and Walnut, had been damaged in an accident a few days ago. City workers were removing the damaged hydrant, when water started pouring out onto the street. Crews discovered the water main had been only partially closed before removing the hydrant.

The water leak has been stopped and the damaged fire hydrant has been repaired. East 4th Street reopened for traffic between Franklin and Walnut at 4:43 PM.  Details tonight on your KWWL-TV News at 5 and 6.
