Former Hawkeye football players will have separate trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A judge has ruled that former University of Iowa football players Abe Satterfield and Cedric Everson, who both face sexual assault charges stemming from an October 2007 incident, will be tried separately.

Sixth District Court Judge Patrick Grady agreed with lawyers for the 20-year-old Satterfield and the 19-year-old Everson. They had argued that combined proceedings would prevent their clients from receiving a fair trial.

Satterfield is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and aiding and abetting second-degree sexual abuse in connection with the rape of a former Iowa student-athlete at a residence hall in October 2007.

Everson is charged with second-degree sexual abuse for his alleged involvement.
