Aid comes to Postville

POSTVILLE (KWWL) -- Since the closing of Agriprocessors, the town of Postville has struggled to survive.

On Thursday, the Northeast Iowa town, just got a little help.

After months of unanswered questions, people in Postville are finally getting answers, or at least direction.

Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge visited Postville, her first visit to the town. She offered some good news, three Amercorp Vista volunteers will arrive next week to assist residents and displaced workers. But the big boost came from a $700,000 community block grant.

It's a small amount of money, but it should point Postville in the right direction.

"This whole event started out bad, and has gone from bad to worse. We hope and have reason to believe that we're starting to see some new life," Ltd. Gov. Judge said.

The Lieutenant Governor does agree that the best thing for the town is to get the plant up and running with new ownership as soon as possible.
