U of I to get trailers for flooded classrooms

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- The federal government is set to buy 22 trailers for the University of Iowa to be used for music and theater students as temporary classrooms.

The trailers are necessary after record June flooding devastated the university's arts campus. They are expected to cost about $1.45 million and will be in place in January.

Iowa's director of campus and facilities planning, Rob They, says the trailers will give music and theater students better acoustics and instrument storage.

Music and theater students have been meeting in church basements, vacant retail space and area high schools since the flood caused an estimated $16.6 million in damage to the Voxman Music Building, Clapp Recital Hall and the Theater Building.
