Robber punches, bites store employees

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- According to store employees, a woman bit one clerk and punched another before robbing an Iowa City grocery store.

Just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to the Hy-Vee on Waterfront Drive, on a report of a robbery.

Store employees told police the suspect had taken money out of a cash register and assaulted two clerks before leaving the store.

They described the suspect as a white female, about 5'4", with brown hair, wearing a red jersey and jeans. She was last seen running southbound from the store.

Officers canvassed the area and located a woman they believe to be the suspect when she attempted to flee the area in a vehicle. Employees from the store identified the suspect as the person who robbed the store.

Amy Lorene McBride, 28, was arrested and charged with Robbery in the 2nd Degree. She was taken to the Johnson County Jail.

Injured during the robbery was a female clerk who was bitten by McBride. Also injured was a male clerk who was punched in the face by McBride. Neither received medical attention.

Police say additional charges are expected to be filed on McBride for other recent criminal activity.
