Automotive struggles mean Iowa City layoffs

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- International Automotive Components says it is cutting 37 jobs from its factory in Iowa City.

The Detroit-based company blames a dramatic slowdown in car manufacturing and the country's economic downturn for the cuts.

International Automotive Components has operated the Iowa City factory since April 2007. Company spokesman Dave Ladd says the layoffs will affect production employees.

Ladd says orders are down substantially because of reduced production among the major automakers the company supplies.
