Cedar Rapids Lighting of the Christmas Tree

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Employees from City parks and recreation and Forestry departments will erect the 2008 City Christmas tree on the Veterans Memorial Plaza on Tuesday.

The tree, a 28 foot Colorado Blue Spruce was donated by Janet Sumner of 361 22nd Avenue SW where it had outgrown the space in her back yard.

This year's tree will be lit by approximately 1000 LED bulbs which were a donation from Alliant Energy in 2007. The tree lighting ceremony will take place in conjunction with the 2008 Fire and Ice downtown festivities and will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 on the Plaza.

The holiday parade will start shortly after the lighting takes place.
