Cedar Rapids Police respond to accidents during hazardous driving

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to numerous accidents this morning with this being the first "hazardous" day of driving.

There were a total of 38 reported accidents with property damage and only three minor personal injury accidents. The first of the accidents occurred just before 7 a.m. and continued during the rush hour with the majority between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The first minor personal injury (PI) accident occure din the 2600 block of Blairsferry Road NE at 8:19 a.m. Both parties involved in the accident refused treatment by Area Ambulance with the accident still investigated.

The second PI occured at 2 Ave & L St. NE at 10:31 a.m. with minor injury and no treatment. The final accident occured at 6 St. & Wright Brothers Blvd. SW when a vehicle was trapped under a semi. There were no injuries ad this accident.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department wants to remind the public to use extreme caution when driving in weather like we had today. Leave early and give yourself extra time to arrive safely. Make sure you have good tires and have good traction. Keep your gas tank at least half filled. Carry extra blankets in the trunk in case you get stuck.
