DNR wants input on Littleton Dam

LITTLETON, Iowa (AP) -- Environmental officials say the state has purchased the right to modify or remove the Wapsipinicon River dam at Littleton in eastern Iowa.

Nate Hoogeveen, Iowa Department of Natural Resources river programs manager, says the agency is asking the community for its input in deciding what to do with the dam.

Hoogeveen says something must be done because the dam presents a drowning hazard.

He also says its capacity as a silt trap and impediment to fish migration impairs the river's environmental health.
