Study: Soil erosion stopped by perennial prairie

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Scientists at Iowa City University are testing the placement of prairie strips in soybean and corn fields.

The idea is to cut down on soil erosion and run off.

Project managers said the goal is to find ways where farmers can maximize their profits while protecting the environment.

Initial studies found that placing the strips in fields reduced sediment loss by 10 - 20 percent.
