Linn County to hold voluntary acquisition meeting for unincorporated residents

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Linn County Planning and Development will hold an informational meeting on December 17 about the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Voluntary Property Acquisition (Buyout) Project for residents of unincorporated Linn County who sustained flood damage.

Staff from the Planning & Development Department and the Iowa Homeland Security Emergency Management Division will provide an update on the project and provide information regarding Duplication of Benefits, Replacement Housing Assistance for property owners, Uniform Relocation Assistance for tenants, and assistance for mobile home owners and tenants.

The meeting will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. at Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center, 10260 Morris Hills Rd., Toddville.

Residents are urged to attend the meeting if they have an interest in participating in the buyout program. The deadline for the county to submit its application for the program to FEMA is January 29, 2009. This will likely be the final opportunity to sign up for the program and additional properties cannot be added to the project once it has been submitted to the State.

Anyone with questions about the rural buyout program should contact Les Beck at (319) 892-5151 or les.beck@linncounty.org.
