Local youth participate in "Lego Challenge"

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- Area children, ages 9 to 14, are among the record 135,000 students around the world who are taking part in the 2008 First Lego League "Climate Connections" challenge.

In order to successfully complete the challenge, teams of young people must build and program a "Lego Mindstorms" robot to explore one of today's most critical issues, the climate.

Events will take place Saturday, December 6, 2008, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Holmes Junior High School in Cedar Falls.

Through hands-on experience and working in teams, children have a chance to explore a real-world issue through research and robotic programming to gain an appreciation for and interest in science and technology.
