UNI Women Bounce Western Illinois 67-52

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team had every player who saw action score in a 67-52 win over Western Illinois Tuesday night in the McLeod Center. Junior Kim Wypiszynski notched her first double-double with the Panthers, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Nicole Clausen led the Panthers with 16 points, and K.K. Armstrong finished with 10 points and six assists.

            Amanda Walker led WIU with 12 points, and Jordon O'Brien and Lyndi Thorman each finished with 10 points.

The Panthers (2-1) and Westerwinds (1-3) found themselves knotted in five ties, and Wypiszynski scored with 8:11 to give the Panthers an 18-16 advantage, the ninth lead change of the game. Indy Uhlenhopp hit a three from the top of the key to put UNI in front, 21-16 with 7:53 left in the half.

            Lindsay Wutt hit a short jumper to cut the Panther lead to three, 21-18, but the Panthers got a pair of free throws from Uhlenhopp and a layup from Lizzie Boeck to stretch their lead to seven, 25-18.

            After a basket from Lyndi Thorman made the score 25-20, Wypiszynski scored on the Panthers' next possession, and  Nicole Clausen took advantage of a steal by Boeck to drain a three from the left baseline and put the Panthers in front, 30-20. The Westerwinds trimmed the Panther lead to 32-26, but a pair of free throws from Armstrong and another from Clausen returned UNI's double-digit lead, 36-26 with 41 seconds left in the half.

            Walker scored with 27 seconds on the clock to send WIU into the break trailing 36-28.
