Bodine Electric has doubled workforce at Peosta plant

PEOSTA (KWWL) -- A silver lining to all the economic doom and gloom.

Bodine Electric has more than doubled the size of its Peosta plant by moving most of its manufacturing and around 100 jobs from its Chicago location.

The company makes fractional horsepower and gear motors for things like medical equipment and printing presses.

Company officials say the cost of doing business is significantly lower in Iowa and the workforce was readily available -- making this a smart move in a tough economy.

"If you listen to the economists out there, they're all spelling out a bunch of doom and gloom," said executive vice president Jeff Bodine.  "However, we're in such diverse markets through our distribution channels that we touch so many industrial and commercial markets that we really haven't felt much of an impact on it yet."

Bodine says moving all manufacturing to one location in Peosta is also giving the company faster turnaround on orders.
