Decorah falls in 3A title game

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- Brandon Wegher left the UNI-Dome a much happier football player this year -- and with his name firmly etched in the record books.

Wegher scored four touchdowns on offense, returned an interception 100 yards for a fifth TD and broke the state's single-season rushing record in leading Sioux City Bishop Heelan past Decorah 35-10 Saturday for the Class 3A state championship.

Wegher danced away from tacklers, broke tackles and at times simply outran them while piling up 241 yards in 32 carries to run his season total to 3,238.

Heelan (14-0) kept Decorah (13-1) bottled up in its own territory most of the game, and the Vikings didn't reach the end zone until the first play of the fourth quarter.
