Solon captures 2A football title in record fashion

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- Solon got four touchdowns from James Morris and a 93-yard TD pass from Matt Morrison in routing Central Lyon/GLR 60-14 on Saturday to win its second straight Class 2A state championship.

In its third consecutive meeting with the Lions in the finals, Solon rang up more points and touchdowns (9) than anyone had ever scored in any previous championship game, regardless of class against a team that had given up only 46 points during the regular season.

Solon (14-0) beat Central Lyon/GLR 24-7 in last year's championship game, while Central Lyon/GLR prevailed 16-7 the previous year.

Morris scored on two 15-yard runs and a 13-yarder and returned a fumble 22 yards for another score -- all in the second half. He finished with 152 yards in 19 carries.
