North Tama's Title Hopes Falls Short, 22-21 in Overtime

A nifty play from an unusual formation gave Lake City Southern Cal another state football title.

Quarterback Greg Meyer ran for a two-point conversion in the first overtime to send Southern Cal to a 22-21 victory over Traer North Tama on Friday in the Class A championship game.

North Tama had taken a 21-14 lead in overtime when Wyatt Hanus threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Brendon Boerm on fourth-down. Southern Cal then got its turn and on fourth down at the 10, Meyer dropped back to pass, then ran for the touchdown.

Spurning an extra point kick, Southern Cal went for the victory. Six linemen lined up on the far right side of the field, then Meyer took the snap and darted in for the winning conversion.

It's Southern Cal's third state title.
