West Des Moines Valley Controls Cedar Falls 27-8 For 4A State Crown

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- With a ball-hogging offense, West Des Moines Valley never gave Cedar Falls a chance.

Valley frustrated Cedar Falls with long, time-consuming drives Friday night and rolled to a 27-8 victory to win the Class 4A state championship.

Zach Cutkomp and Theo Burkett led a strong running game and Taylor Nelson completed just enough passes to keep the Cedar Falls defense honest as Valley (14-0) earned its fourth state title, all since 2002.

It was the fifth championship for Valley coach Gary Swenson.

Cutkomp carried 25 times for 146 yards, while Burkett added 104 yards in 20 attempts. Each ran for a touchdown, Nelson scored a touchdown and Kevin Sheldon kicked two field goals.

Valley led 24-0 before Cedar Falls (12-2) got on the board, quarterback Kyle Bernard scoring on a 3-yard run with 5:41 left.
