Dubuque students to protest U.S. School of Americas

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- People from Dubuque are on the road to protest the School of America -- a U.S. Military Base which trains Latin America Soldiers.

Protestors with peace and justice left from Loras College headed for Fort Benning, Georgia, which houses the School of America. They say the school teaches tortue as well as counter-terrorism tactics and they're upset U.S. tax dollars pay for it.

"Spread awarenss on what's going on there and spread awareness about other issues that are going on in the world," said Nick Sanford with Peace and Justice. "And so we'll learn a little bit and be a voice to the voiceless for those down in the countries that don't have the oppurtunity to demostrate against this base "

Students will also be writing letters to elected officals to try to shut down the school.
