Former Hardin County official sentenced to prison

HARDIN COUNTY (KWWL) -- The former director of the Hardin County Solid Waste Commission has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and more than $35,000 in fines and restitution.

Mary Ellen Taylor, 46, received her sentence for First Degree Theft on Monday. A Hardin County judge gave Taylor 10 years in prison and ordered she pay a $1,000 fine as well as $35,587.40 in restitution.

In October Taylor pled guilty to one count of First Degree Theft, a Class C Felony in Hardin County District Court.

The charges stem from a Division of Criminal Investigation case that was initiated in part by an audit conducted by the Office of the State Auditor. The audit covered a period beginning Jan. 1, 2002 through Dec. 1, 2007, revealing Taylor was responsible for misappropriating more than $127,000 of un-deposited collections and improper and unsupported disbursements.
