Student health fund gets a boost

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Emergency Health Fund which provides medications and specialized medical attention to students in Cedar Rapids received a boost this week.

The program serves students who may not have the money for medical needs and is supported by donations and grants. This week Hills Bank donated $3,500 to the fund.

In the 2007/2008 school year, $7,478 was used for medications, specialist visits, dental and vision needs as well as lab tests and medical supplies. Organizers expect an increase in need this year following the recent natural disasters.

The fund is part of the the Metro Care Connection, which provides school-based health services to students in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
