UPDATE: Series of I-380 crashes turns deadly

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) --  Police now say one person has died after a series of crashes on Interstate 380 in Cedar Rapids Wednesday morning.

Police say 33 year-old Maidul Islam of Marion died in one of at least two crashes on I-380.

The first crash happened at about 7:40 am at the HWY 30 interchange.  Cedar Rapids Police say a car driven by 33 year-old Adam Hebl of Marion did not see traffic slowing down and rear-ended a car in front of him.  Police ticketed Hebl for failure to maintain control.

While police were investigating that crash, a 4-car chain reaction crash started 2 miles north at the Wilson Ave SW overpass.  A car hit Islam's car, sending it into the median.  That same car then hit a third car, sending it into a fourth car.  Islam was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Police are still investigating the cause of the second crash.  They are also investigating if those two crashes helped cause any other crashes on I-380.
