Wapsie Valley hopes 3rd times the charm for funding

FAIRBANK (KWWL) -- After mixed results, school leaders hope the third time's the charm to pass funding for two new elementary schools in Wapsie Valley.

The school district held an informational meeting on the plan in Fairbank. Wapsie Valley wants to replace run-down elementary schools in Fairbank and Readlyn. In September, voters narrowly passed $8 million in bonds for the schools but narrowly rejected raising the tax levy to help pay for the schools. Wapsie Valley leaders say the new schools are desperately needed.

"They would like to have buildings, facilities that are conducive to student learning, that are safe for students, that are accessible to students and that allow them to run an efficient school district," said Wapsie Valley Superintendent Chad Garber.

A third election on the tax levy issue will be December 9th.
