New fire station, Tim Shea replacement discussed by Waterloo Council

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The budget is the key to building a new fire station near Waterloo's Crossroads Mall.

The Waterloo City Council approved $18,000 Monday night to begin designing the new station. It would replace the one on San Marnan, which would become a pharmacy. But, construction will only start if the budget is under $2.1 million.

"We're not going to do it if its $2.11 million," said Mayor Tim Hurley. "In fact i'd like to be able to make the switch and have some money left over to put back into out general funds."

Also at Monday night's meeting, The Waterloo City Council appointed Larry Smith as superintendent of Waste Management Services. He replaces Tim Shea, who accidentally drowned during a fishing trip in September.
